After years of working in video (read: shoot the action, edit it and deliver it to the client), I started looking for something new — what a teenager would call the next level. That level became a new phase of my business: multi-camera live video production and live streaming at budeme.live.

At first it was quite a nice idea, but once I added up what all the technology costs, I cooled down a bit. I don't collect licence fees, so I don't have the budget of a national broadcaster. I had to figure a few things out myself — and it worked.

Of course, some things you simply can't make yourself. Cameras, tripods or capture cards from Blackmagic… you just buy. :)

So the kit was complete, everything was set up and, sweating with stress, we did our first event. Great — but with practice you find out what is still missing for perfection…

Tally lights!

When you start looking around the web for tally lights and you also have some specific requirements, you will either find nothing, or you need to prepare a few hundred euros. My requirements were:

• wireless transmission,
• sufficient range,
• power from a power bank,
• low weight and small dimensions.

So we scratched our heads — and the WiFiTally.eu project was born.
